Facts About “Precious Pints”

The Blood Alliance’s Precious Pints donors are special for several reasons, including the fact that they come in each time they are due (once every 56 days), because they know the importance of their donation to the lives of infants. They know their blood has special properties needed by the babies, and they know that the donations need to be fresh (used within approximately 5 days).

Precious Pints is a program that was developed by The Blood Alliance to help ensure that fresh blood is always on the shelf for infants needing transfusions. Precious Pints donors must fit into one of two categories: either he/she must have type O-positive or type O-negative blood that is CMV-negative, or type O-positive or type O-negative blood that is CMV-negative and Hemoglobin-S negative. Currently, we have less than 1% of our donor base enrolled in this important program, and are always seeking new qualified participants.

Precious Pints donations are performed at our South Jacksonville Community Donor Center located at 8013 Beach Boulevard in Jacksonville, Florida.
